Develop Your Emotional Intelligence
“Anyone can become angry – that is easy. But to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way – this is not easy.” -Aristotle (approx. 350BCE)
What is Emotional Intelligence?
In its simplest description, Emotional Intelligence is NOT about the number of emotions a person has rather than its one’s ability to have awareness and acknowledge their emotions and the emotions of others for increased effectiveness in managing ourselves and our relationships. Emotions influence everything we do. All perceptions are filtered through an emotional lens. Emotions impact our ability to use logic and reason. Understanding more about the role of emotions in our lives will increase our effectiveness at work and in life.
The Science of Emotional Intelligence
Dr. Reuven Bar-On had a very general research question in mind, which was, “what made some people ‘successful’ in work and in life independent of their intelligence quotient (IQ) scores?” Therefore, his model of emotional and social functioning (hitherto becoming known as a model of emotional intelligence) is a model of skills developed throughout our growth and development. Therefore, these emotional skills, can be measured and improved.
What’s the Difference Between Emotional Intelligence (EQ-i) and Personality Assessments
So, you’ve done a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), or a similar assessment and now you have your "personality type.” Great… now, what do you DO with that information besides include it in your Tinder dating profile, or use it as a way to support and/or justify your personality to others? While personality assessments are a great start and can give you information such as preferences and tendencies, they don’t necessarily show your competency. EQ-i tells you your competency levels in 15 different areas of social-emotional functioning. But, it doesn’t stop there… With EQ-i based coaching, you’d be able to focus on areas of lower competency and with specific actions, develop those areas to have a greater impact on other areas in your life from work, leadership, confidence, to personal relationships and communication. EQ-i not only gives you the WHAT it also shows you HOW. This means unlike personality types, which are usually unchanging, emotional intelligence can be developed over time.
Other benefits of EQ-i:
It can save or even make you money by improving your efficiency in the workplace, on teams, in groups, etc.
It saves time- you’ll be able to go deeper faster than traditional coaching/therapy.
Safe to use- the entire process is confidential.
Easy to use- just click the link and answer a few questions that take, on average, 20mins.
and most importantly, it’s the first SCIENTIFICALLY validated measure of Emotional Intelligence.
